Features of "Imagine":
The U.S. Army shirt/jacket worn by John Lennon is easily the second most famous article of clothing that he ever wore next to the famous New York T- shirt.
Measurements:
- Width: 21"
- Height: 27"
2nd Infantry Patch:
This patch tells us that original jacket John Lennon wore was from the Korean war not Vietnam. This piece includes an original 2nd Infantry Division patch similar to the one on the original jacket. 2nd Infantry Division's primary mission was the defense of South Korea in the initial stages of an invasion from North Korea until other American units can arrive.
"Peace Now":
A tribute to the peace marches in the 60's/70's and carrying on to recent times the slogan "Peace Now" has never lost it's impact. The slogan on this jacket is freestyle hand painted. A tribute to the many handmade protest signs throughout history.
Original 1960's Peace Button / Hand painted name tape:
Accompanying this hand painted military name tape is an original peace pin from the late 1960's. In the 60s and 70s, this style of pinback button found use in many protests. While U.S. soldiers were in the midst of a war on Vietnamese soil, many U.S. citizens were engaging in their own domestic war for peace.
Original 1977 NY Button:
Famous for his many iconic print designs, this pop culture icon was created in 1976 by graphic designer Milton Glaser (June 26, 1929 – June 26, 2020) in the back of a taxi and was drawn with red crayon on scrap paper. The original drawing is held in the Museum of Modern Art in Manhattan.
9th Infantry Division patch:
As this is an actual jacket from the Vietnam war you will notice the 9th Infantry Division patch. The 9th Division arrived in S. Vietnam on 16 December 1966 from Fort Riley Kansas. Faced with unrelenting physical hardships, a tenacious enemy and the region's rugged terrain, the Division established strategies and quantifiable goals for completing their mission. "I often keep pieces on the jackets as they were when worn during the war as a tribute to the jackets original owner".
